School Boards: Rebuilding Relationships with the Public is a publication of the first Jacqueline P. Danzberger Memorial Lecture, given by the former U.S. Secretary of Education, Richard W. Riley, at the National School Boards Association's (NSBA) 2001 Annual Conference. A standing room only audience inaugurated this tribute to longtime IEL staff member, "Jackie" Danzberger, made possible by contributions from colleagues, friends, and family to honor Jackie's life, career, and contributions to education leadership and policy. Mr. Riley delivered a spirited and thoughtful speech that highlighted the major challenges facing today's public school systems and school boards. Copies of the speech (12 pp) are free of charge. We will announce within a few weeks the person who will present this year's lecture at the NSBA's 2002 Annual Conference on Sunday morning, April 7, 2002, 8:45-10:00 a.m., at the Convention Center Auditorium in New Orleans.
