Virginia is one of several states working to launch an EPFP site for the 2008-09 program year. The site will be administered by the Center for Educational Empowerment and Diversity Studies housed at the College of Virginia Beach, a component of Hampton University. Virginia EPFP’s first cohort of Fellows will be selected during the summer of 2008, with the program commencing in the fall. The curriculum of the program will center on leadership, public policy, diversity, and educational empowerment. The goal of the program is to develop effective leaders who are equipped to hold key positions in the educational policy community.
Across the ten-month program, from September through June, Fellows will meet once per month for approximately four hours. Fellows will have the opportunity to interact with officials and leaders from a variety of groups and organizations that articulate local, national, and international educational concerns. Workshops, seminars, and programs throughout the year will prepare Fellows for the challenges facing education today, as well as future changes in the education policy landscape.
