Byron is the Right Turn Program Manager for the Center for Workforce Development (CWD).  He coordinates all aspects of the Right Turn project, including training and development, technical assistance, and data collection and evaluation, along with providing on-going technical assistance to each of the five Right Turn sites.

Prior to joining IEL, Byron served as Co-Director of Reentry, Office of Program Development and Funding for the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.  His responsibilities included providing technical assistance to 18 County Reentry Task Forces located throughout the State.  Most recently, Byron was the National Program Director for The Corps Network’s Civic Justice Corps as well as the Corps’ Postsecondary Success Education Initiative.  His duties at the Corps Network included providing technical assistance to five Corps postsecondary programs focusing on out-of-school youth facing various educational and developmental barriers.

Byron began his work in criminal justice as an arraignment coordinator at the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem.  Since that time he has worked in various capacities at community based organizations and criminal justice government agencies including the New York City Office of the Mayor, Office of the Criminal Justice Coordinator where Byron served as Program-Contract Coordinator and The Fifth Avenue Committee where he was Director of The Developing Justice Program – a prison reentry initiative serving formerly incarcerated men and women throughout New York City.

Byron holds a Juris Doctor degree from Rutgers University School of Law – Newark, and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the Rochester Institute of Technology.  In addition, Byron developed a course entitled Major Issues in Criminal Justice: Prison Reentry as an adjunct instructor at RIT’s Department of Criminal Justice
